Reason to love the French

Source: www.telegraph.co.uk. Posted on 07 November 2007.

Rowan Pelling for the Daily Telegraph writes: A book called 50 Reasons to Hate the French, written by two Brits, Alex Clarke and Jules Eden, has just hit the New York Times bestseller list. While I salute the authors on their amusing exploitation of our traditional enmities, I have to protest, "Au contraire, j'aime les français."

The standard ticket price is 1.30 euros, for any distance.

New book on surviving the French

Source: www.go-provence.com. Posted on 05 November 2007.

We love to hate the French - and vice versa. I read an amusing article in the Sunday Times entitled "why can’t the English be more like the French?" and the sub-heading "with the high-speed link to London about to open at last, Hortense de Monplaisir warns her fellow Parisians of the horreurs anglais that await them". I read to find an amusing satire of English mores from a Parisienne's perspective, covering London houses, Boden catalogues, an Englishman's sex life and our love of Marks and Spencer, house price conversation and "me time."

Source: provenceblog.typepad.com. Posted on 01 October 2007.

The annual chestnut festivals in Collobrières are taking place on the three Sundays of the 14th, 21st and 28th of October. Collobrières is deep in the forested hills of the Maures, west of Saint Tropez and northeast of Toulon and Hyères. This is excellent country for hiking, and a visit to the Carthusian monastery "Chartreuse de la Verne".

Autumn in the Provence

Source: provenceblog.typepad.com. Posted on 30 September 2007.

The end of September has brought a sudden chill to the South of France, with a sharp transition from Summer to Autumn. One day of light rain, though, isn't enough after a few months of absolute dryness (while other parts of France and Europe have been having floods).

Asian masseuses working on Riviera

Source: www.timesonline.co.uk. Posted on 15 August 2007.

Asian masseuses working on French Riviera beaches face a police crack-down after becoming popular among holidaymakers but a headache for their Gallic counterparts. The action follows claims from the French Council of Masseurs and Physiotherapists that the mainly Chinese newcomers are illegal, unhygienic and even dangerous. Teams of Chinese women first appeared on exclusive, private beaches in Cannes, Antibes and Juan-les-Pins last month, offering camphor oil massages for about €20 (£13). The local newspaper, Nice Matin, said that most beachgoers found the idea "very good".

More forest fires in the Var

Source: www.liberation.fr. Posted on 16 July 2007.

Only ten days after the last last forest fires, the Var is again fighting against the raging flames. Unfortunately, such fires are all too common in the Var. We always remind our guest to look after the natural environment or 'protéger la nature' as the signs around Résidence Les Marronniers urge tourists.

Survival guide for Saint-Tropez

Source: money.cnn.com. Posted on 13 July 2007.

A stay in Saint-Tropez is neither cheap nor chill, so be prepared to spend some cash and dance until dawn. A good day in Saint-Tropez is largely spent lounging at a beach club on Pampelonne beach, which overlooks the beautiful blue waters of the eponymous gulf.

Aix-en-Provence opera festival

Source: www.iht.com. Posted on 05 July 2007.

The summer opera festival in this bucolic Provençal town is less solemn than the annual Wagner pilgrimage to Bayreuth in southern Germany and less elitist than the biannual gatherings of opera lovers in Mozart's Austrian birthplace, Salzburg. But it lacks nothing in ambition.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker headed to Saint-Tropez this weekend for their his-and-her bachelor party ahead of their July 7 wedding. After partying on Saturday at Les Caves du Roy and then lounging on a yacht (in matching baseball caps reading 'Faith'), the pair hosted a Sunday-night bash billed 'Love Is in the Air Starring Eva Longoria and Tony Parker' at the V.I.P. Room nightclub.
