The Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (PACA) region in France voted fairly overwhelmingly for the conservative Nicolas Sarkozy who swept to victory in the presidential elections yesterday. On a national level 53 per cent of the French electorate voted for him. The turnout to vote across the country was an impressive 85 per cent, not quite a record as in 1981 some 85.85 per cent turned out, although the number of voters was the highest ever at nearly 38 million.
