The stars have descended on the region for the 59th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the most notable being the cast of the Da Vinci Code who arrived by high speed train direct from London. Its premiere screening received mixed reviews.

Some of the films battling it out today include Ken Loach's The Wind that shakes the Barley about two brothers in the Irish struggle for Independence. Yet another docu-film graces the screen called Fast Food Nation by Richard Linklater.
