Toulouse: A380 on historic flight

Airbus bosses yesterday dodged questions about the company's financial affairs, as its super jumbo double-decker A380 took to the skies for its first public flight.

About 200 people boarded the plane for a two-hour tour around the company's base at Toulouse in south-west France.

The plane, dubbed the Green Giant by its European creators due to its comparative fuel efficiency and low carbon emissions, was billed as the flagship of the 21st century by A380 programme head Mario Heinen.
