Wines for lunching on a terrace in the Provence

When I think of summer wines, I imagine the sort I would drink while lunching on a terrace in Provence - sitting in the shade of ancient plane trees, overlooking a picturesque valley, eating olives, some local jambon and a melon to die for.
Then again, maybe it's Sunday brunch on a deck in the Hamptons. Or early evening gathered poolside in Malibu, sipping wine with friends as we inhale the smell of ribs sizzling on the grill.
What wine would I want to drink in these situations?
Summer wines should, above all, be fun - unpretentious, uncomplicated fun. Clean and light on their feet, they should vibrate with zesty fresh fruit flavor. And, ideally, they should leave us with a few dollars to put toward other summer pleasures.
