Huddled about the church, protected by its citadel and wooded hills, Saint-Tropez slumbered behind the closed shutters of narrow houses, their pink ochre walls aglow. That was, at least until Brigitte Bardot arrived on the scene: Playboys from all over the world turned up to woo international stars, the jet set treated the place as its base camp, and millionaires had palaces built.
The Telegraph web site has published an amusing extract from the book 'In the Spirit of Saint-Tropez' by Herry-Jean Servat. Certainly worth a quick read.
